Rail Service Delay Update

August 31, 2018

RE: Rail Service Delay update

In the past 10 days, BNSF Railway has experienced 3 major service interruptions:

Tuesday, August 21st. A non-intermodal train derailed in Verdemont, CA blocking the main lines in and out of Southern California for approximately 32 hours.

Tuesday, August 28th. A washout near La Crosse, WI blocked the main lines between Chicago and St Paul MN, Spokane WA, Portland OR, and Seattle WA. Both main lines are expected back in service on Thursday, August 30th.

Thursday, August 30th. An intermodal train derailed in Quinton, AL blocking the main line between California and the Southeast (Atlanta, Charlotte, and Florida). There is not an estimated time of opening for the main line at this time.

These service interruptions have strained terminal capacity, car supply, and crew availability. As a result, loads moving in these corridors will experience significant service delays into next week. Shipment delays in excess of 72 hours are possible. Ramp congestion and adequate parking space continue to be a significant problem delaying the recovery in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Chicago.

Best regards,
